Beats, Rhymes, & Laughter

In a world full rappers talking about all the stuff they claim to own and claim to do one can think its quite comical with their outlandish antics. Well today we interview a person with a great a sense of humor. A man who’s first album was actually a college project back in 1999, which turned into what was a big underground hip-hop following throughout the East Coast and Europe and even touching down some fame in the West Coast

Pharoahe Monch @ DeFremery Park for The Living Word Festival 2009.

So although I heard about the line up for this festival late like around 11am. When I found out Pharoahe Monch was going to be there I knew I needed to start getting ready to head out to West Oakland. Money well spent- This week’s classic pick

V.V. Brown is one of the hottest new artist to come out of the U.K. She has a classy soul style that is all her own. Her voice brings back memories of Etta James, but in a neo-rock type of way. Brown blends funk, soul, rock and R&B into a mix that I can only describe as if the Neptunes got together with Joss Stone and the David Matthews band and had some sort of off the chain jam session. Below is a track off her first album Traveling like the light. Brown if definitely the new artist to watch. Holla

So does anyone even remember when Andre 3000 was just regular old Andre from ATL? If not, below is the super classic from Outkast. Coming straight out of 1993, player’s ball was Outkast’s very first single. This song is featured on their album

About a certain Teddy Bear Backpack and Skinny Jean wearing rapper who's name can no longer be mentioned

Frankly in this day in age, if you are entertainer and you can’t take a little heat from 5’8 rapper who wears skinny jeans and teddy bear backpacks, you need to find another profession. I’m tired of hearing about how Kanye was so horrible, mainly because I can name several events in Hollywood that are much worse…including norbit.

Money well spent- This week’s classic pick

This week’s classic pick is a local crew. Coming straight out of Oakland, California, The Hieroglyphics hit the scene in 1993. Over 15 years later the crew is still touring underground hip hop events. Below is one of my favorite tracks from the group. Hope you enjoy….
