So although I heard about the line up for this festival late like around 11am. When I found out Pharoahe Monch was going to be there I knew I needed to start getting ready to head out to West Oakland.  The concert was part of the Living Word Festival for 2009 which is an “annual gathering of future thinking, Urban centered performers, educators & environMentalists.”

When I arrived at DeFremery Park I was shocked to find parking right by a huge skate park right in the middle of West Oakland. The most shocking part wasn’t the actual skate park and its location but the fact that it wasn’t just Black faces I seen but white and brown faces as well.  As I continued walking I had to pause a second to take in the positive vibes at the park. They had something for everyone from a b-boy battle, graffiti battle, art exhibits, music vendors even a vegan soul food restaurant.

Maybe it was the location but I just always feel PROUD when I find myself  at events like this that go off with no problems. It was a place for people to truly enjoy the arts and we were all blessed with a musical treat from Pharoahe Monch to end the day out. The pics above are from my day at Defremery Park. Please enjoy!

If i figure it out I will post the vids I got from the concert or you can just check the vids out by clicking on the pics above.
